I have actually played on several private servers for the past year, so I think I can give more details to the drawbacks, and the good stuff.

First of all the subscription fee is dirt cheap until you consider the license fees, which is about $40 per account. Then think of us multiboxers who need about five accounts. Then it's $200 just to sign-up and another $70 mo.

As for the unfair thing. The servers give the store away are just not fun to play. Being given 60 slot bags from the start or level 50 gear basically kills any need to do professions which is a game all in itself. I was on one server and leveled from 7 to 12 just killing a few wolves. Then I leveled from 12 to 40 just by turning in one quest. I left immediately after that. Just no fun if you are just handed everything.

I eventually found a private server that was very close to Blizz, only 2 x XP. That was fun until I found the instances were basically broken or gimped. The whole reason I multibox is to enjoy the instances. On top of that the auction houses are basically dead on most private servers which is a big part of the game.

I'm considering biting the bullet and going back to blizz, forking up the $200 license fees and $80 monthly charge, because I just don't get the same experience without a large population and working instances.
